Yellow Chrysanthemums and Red Osmanthus in the Style of Wang Yuan

Shen Zhou created ‘Yellow Chrysanthemums and Red Osmanthus in the Style of Wang Yuan’ in 1468. It’s a hanging scroll, ink on paper. The work reflects the Ming dynasty aesthetic. Cleveland Museum of Art.

The scroll measures 115.6 cm by 49.5 cm. It depicts chrysanthemums and osmanthus with delicate brushwork. The museum acquired it in 1997.

Shen Zhou was active during the Ming dynasty from 1427 to 1509. He was a leader of the Wu School of painting, known for literati paintings.
