Landscape after Ni Zan

Wang Yuanqi’s ‘Landscape after Ni Zan’ is a hanging scroll from 1707. It uses ink and light color on paper, typical of his approach to landscape painting. Cleveland Museum of Art.

The painting measures 170.8 cm in height. Ni Zan, the artist’s inspiration, was a Yuan dynasty painter known for his sparse landscapes.

Wang Yuanqi served as a court official and curator of the imperial collection. His work reflects the influence of earlier masters like Huang Gongwang.
