Hermann von Wedigh III (died 1560)

Hermann von Wedigh III, painted by Hans Holbein the Younger in 1532. Oil and gold on oak, with an added strip at the bottom. New York.

The painting measures 42.2 by 32.4 centimeters. A half-inch strip was added to the bottom, altering the original dimensions.

Bequeathed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art by Edward S. Harkness in 1940. It resides in their European Paintings department.

Hans Holbein the Younger was active in Switzerland and England. Known for his detailed portraits, he worked in a Northern Renaissance style.
