Virgin and Child

Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Virgin and Child’ is an oil painting on wood from around 1500. It is housed in the Cleveland Museum of Art.

The painting measures approximately 49 x 36 cm. The figures are portrayed with delicate expressions and soft, rounded forms.

This work entered the Cleveland Museum of Art collection in 1916. Its previous ownership details are not extensively documented.

Leonardo was primarily active in Italy during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. His works often explored themes of religious and scientific inquiry.
