A cassone by Apollonio di Giovanni di Tomaso depicting the Conquest of Trebizond. Made of poplar wood, linen, and gilded gesso. Painted with tempera and gold. New York, after ca. 1461.

The painted surface measures 15 1/4 by 49 1/2 inches. The full cassone is 39 1/2 inches tall, 77 inches wide, and 32 7/8 inches deep.

Acquired through the John Stewart Kennedy Fund in 1914. Classified under woodwork furniture in the European Sculpture and Decorative Arts department.

Apollonio di Giovanni di Tomaso was active in Florence. He painted cassoni and was known for narrative themes.
