Herbaceous Peony

Yun Shouping painted ‘Herbaceous Peony’ in 1685. The medium is ink and color on silk, a hanging scroll. Qing dynasty, China.

The scroll measures 168.5 centimeters in height and 41 centimeters in width. It is housed in the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Yun Shouping, also known as Nantian, was one of the ‘Six Masters’ of the early Qing dynasty. His work focused on delicate flower and bird paintings.
