Reminiscences of Qinhuai River

Shitao’s ‘Reminiscences of Qinhuai River’ is an album leaf painted with ink and color on Song paper. Cleveland, Ohio, 1642–1707.

The painting is part of the Qing dynasty, a period spanning 1644 to 1911. The Cleveland Museum of Art acquired it, but the date of acquisition is not specified.

Shitao, born Zhu Ruoji, narrowly escaped death as a Ming dynasty royal. He became a Buddhist monk and later converted to Daoism.
