Nagasawa Rosetsu’s ‘Puppies, Sparrows, and Chrysanthemums’ is a fusuma panel remounted as a hanging scroll. Ink and slight color on paper. Created c. 1792–94.

The painting features a playful scene of puppies and sparrows among chrysanthemums. It combines precise line work with soft washes of color.

Originally part of a fusuma, or sliding door, it was later remounted as a hanging scroll. This transformation allowed for different display possibilities.

Nagasawa Rosetsu was a disciple of the Maruyama School in Kyoto. He was known for versatility in his artistic style.
