A skeleton watercarrier argues with a woman, while two skeleton angels look on. José Guadalupe Posada created this engraving around 1890–96. The scene is entitled ‘In proof of true love.’

The engraving is on a sheet measuring 15 3/4 × 11 13/16 inches. Posada used type-metal engraving and letterpress. The work belongs to the Drawings and Prints department.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired it in 1946. It was funded by The Elisha Whittelsey Collection, through The Elisha Whittelsey Fund.

José Guadalupe Posada worked as a political printmaker in Mexico. He is known for using skulls and skeletons to critique political and cultural issues.
