Summer

Jean-Baptiste Pater’s “Summer” was painted c. 1720–1736. It is an oil on canvas and resides in the Cleveland Museum of Art.

The painting measures 47.6 by 57.5 cm. It is a typical example of Pater’s work in the Rococo style, noted for its pastel palette.

Pater was accepted into the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1728. He presented a military-themed work in the style of his teacher, Watteau.
