The painting measures 55.6 x 65.4 cm. The flowers are dense and layered, filling the frame with vivid colors. It predates his Impressionist period by a decade.
Monet’s early works, like this one, attracted little attention. He studied under Charles Gleyre and was influenced by Eugène Boudin.
