Hans Memling’s “Young Woman with a Pink” is oil on wood, ca. 1485–90. The painting measures 17 x 7 3/8 inches overall. The Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired it in 1949 from The Jules Bache Collection.

The subject holds a pink flower delicately between her fingers. Her gaze is directed away, creating a sense of introspection. The background is a simple, dark plane emphasizing her presence.

The painted surface is slightly narrower than the overall panel, measuring 17 x 6 7/8 inches. This subtle difference suggests the piece may have been framed to preserve its original composition.

Memling became a citizen of Bruges in 1465. He was among the wealthiest citizens by 1480. His portraits often included donor figures, blending them into religious narratives.
