Winged Fortune
William Morris Hunt
William Morris Hunt painted ‘Winged Fortune’ in 1878, a year before his death. The work is executed in oil on canvas and is part of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s collection.
Hunt studied under Jean-François Millet in Paris. He was closely associated with the Barbizon artists’ colony before establishing a similar group in the United States.
Hunt’s career faced setbacks, including the destruction of his works in the Great Boston Fire of 1872 and the deterioration of murals in the New York State Capitol.
