Portrait of An Qi

Wang Hui painted ‘Portrait of An Qi’ in 1715. It is a hanging scroll made with ink and color on paper. Currently housed at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

The painting’s subject, An Qi, is associated with the Hui people, a Chinese-speaking Muslim ethnic group. Their presence is mainly in northwestern China.

Wang Hui was active during the transition from the Ming to the Qing dynasty. He is one of the Four Wangs, known for landscape painting.
