Gerard David’s “The Rest on the Flight into Egypt” depicts the Holy Family taking a break during their journey. Painted ca. 1512–15. Oil on wood, measuring 53.3 × 39.8 cm.

The painting is part of The Jules Bache Collection since 1949. It resides in the European Paintings department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

David may have run workshops in both Antwerp and Bruges. His reputation waned after the 17th century but was revived in the 19th.
