Biagio d’Antonio’s ‘Portrait of a Young Man’ dates to around 1470. It is a tempera on wood painting, measuring 21 3/8 x 15 1/2 inches. The Metropolitan Museum of Art received it through the Friedsam Collection in 1931. New York, probably ca. 1470.

The painted surface is slightly smaller than the overall dimensions, at 20 1/4 x 14 1/4 inches. The young man’s gaze is directed off to the right, his expression enigmatic.

Biagio d’Antonio was active in Florence, Faenza, and Rome. He began his career by 1472 and continued until his death in 1515.
