Tsubaki Chinzan’s ‘Banana Plant and Chrysanthemum’ is a hanging scroll painted in ink and color on paper. It dates from around 1820 to 1854. The work is part of the Edo period in Japan.

The painting depicts a banana plant alongside chrysanthemums. The scroll format suggests it was intended for display in a domestic or temple setting.

Chinzan worked in the nanga style, which was influenced by Chinese literati painting. He was known by several art names throughout his career.
