An Egyptian Peasant Woman and Her Child

In 1869–70, Léon Bonnat painted ‘An Egyptian Peasant Woman and Her Child.’ The work measures 73 1/2 by 41 1/2 inches. It depicts a woman carrying her child, both dressed in traditional attire.

The painting is part of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Collection. It was bequeathed to the museum in 1887. The work is housed in the European Paintings department.

Bonnat was a French painter known for his portraits and historical subjects. He served as a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts.
